About Jack’s Place
Established in 1966, Jack’s Place is the trusted favourite known for its Western food. It all started when Mr. Say Lip Hai arrived in Singapore from Hainan Island and started as a cook boy with the British troops in Sembawang. There he learned how to prepare the perfect roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.

Having tasted one of Mr Say’s now famous meals, a British housewife suggested he start a catering business with her husband, Jack Hunt, in his pub at Killiney Road, Jack’s Place, which he started in 1966. Mr Say agreed and commenced that partnership in 1968. Shortly afterwards, Jack Hunt sold his share of the business, but his namesake ‘Jack the Chef’ still runs the kitchen today!
Today, Jack’s Place is the trusted favourite for family and friends to enjoy great value sizzling steaks, speciality meals, and sumptuous cakes. Jack’s Place is committed to serving quality food and creating memorable dining experiences in a cheerful and cosy environment for our guests.

WorldHotels™ Art & Culture Destinations: Artful Stays in the World's Most Creative Cities

WorldHotels highlights six distinctive properties that position hotels not merely as places to stay, but as immersive cultural destinations where art, design, and local creativity shape the guest experience. Each hotel is framed as a living cultural space that reflects the character, history, and artistic pulse of its location.

In Austin, The Loren Hotel blends contemporary design with Texas heritage. Its restoration of the historic Paggi House creates an art-led event space, while the restaurant Nido pairs culinary artistry with sweeping views of Lady Bird Lake.
In Milan, Collini Rooms functions as both hotel and gallery, showcasing the vibrant works of artist Federico Unia (Omer). Murals, sculptures, neon lighting, and a visually expressive café turn the stay into a multisensory journey that captures Milan’s stylish, eclectic energy.

In Granada, Hotel Alhambra Palace embodies Moorish Revival grandeur. Opened in 1910, its arches, mosaics, carved stucco, and golden ceilings make the hotel feel like a living extension of the city’s historic Alhambra, blurring the line between accommodation and architectural heritage.

In Utrecht, Grand Hotel Karel V transforms a 14th-century monastery into a refined luxury retreat. Medieval frescoes, stone corridors, tranquil courtyards, and a Michelin-star restaurant weave together past and present, offering guests a deeply atmospheric sense of place.

In Tallinn, Nordic Hotel Forum reflects Estonia’s contemporary cultural scene through sleek Nordic design and strong partnerships with major festivals and the Kumu Art Museum, alongside skyline wellness facilities.

Finally, in Gotland, Grå Gåsen celebrates playful, colourful “dopamine décor,” individually styled rooms, and outdoor cultural life through Gåsen Live, Gotland’s largest open-air concert stage.

Together, these six properties illustrate a new model of experiential luxury where travel becomes a form of cultural discovery.

Capella Debuts in Kyoto, Japan

Capella Hotels and Resorts will open Capella Kyoto on 22 March 2026, coinciding with Kyoto’s famous cherry blossom season. Located in the historic Miyagawa-cho geisha district, the hotel sits near Kenninji Temple and the Kamo River, an area deeply connected with Kyoto’s cultural heritage and the origins of kabuki theatre. The property marks Capella’s first hotel in Japan.

Designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates in collaboration with Brewin Design Office, the 89-room hotel reinterprets Kyoto’s traditional machiya townhouses. The architectural concept reflects the city’s layered spatial traditions, incorporating narrow alleyways, inner courtyards, and hidden gardens to create a modern interpretation of Kyoto’s historic urban design.

Capella Kyoto forms part of a broader cultural redevelopment project built on the former Shinmichi Elementary School site. The development includes the restored Miyagawa-cho Kaburenjo Theatre, historically used to train geiko and maiko, as well as a new community centre. Hotel guests will have rare access to performances at this theatre, offering an intimate experience of Kyoto’s traditional performing arts.

The hotel offers 89 accommodations across four floors, ranging from Deluxe City Rooms to the expansive 206-square-metre Capella Suite. Premium room types include Premier Theatre Rooms overlooking the Kaburenjo Theatre and Gion Suites with views of Kenninji Temple. Six suites feature private onsen baths, while the top Capella Suite provides panoramic views of the Higashiyama skyline and the Yasaka Pagoda.

Dining options include SoNoMa by SingleThread, created with the three-Michelin-starred California restaurant, offering seasonal cuisine inspired by both Kyoto and California. Other venues include Yoi, a modern kappo-style restaurant, SingleThread Entremets patisserie, and Lanterne, an all-day French brasserie.

Wellness facilities include Auriga Spa, featuring private onsen rooms, saunas, and holistic treatments inspired by lunar cycles. Cultural experiences under Capella Curates will allow guests to participate in traditional arts, workshops, and exclusive encounters with Kyoto’s geiko culture.
Bookings available at www.capellahotels.com/kyoto.

Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia welcomes Ampersand Estates

Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia (UWEA) has welcomed Ampersand Estates in Western Australia as its newest member, expanding the collective into the Pemberton Wine Region south of Perth. The 56-hectare property sits 30 minutes north of Pemberton and 45 minutes east of Margaret River, about a three-hour drive from Perth. It is also accessible via Busselton–Margaret River Airport, with optional VIP helicopter transfers landing directly at the estate.

Set beside the Donnelly River and surrounded by karri forests, dunes, truffle country and dramatic coastlines, Ampersand Estates positions itself as both a nature destination and a premium wine and spirits producer. Its lakeside cellar door offers guided tastings of Ampersand wines and gourmet picnics featuring local produce.

A key feature is the onsite Rainfall Distillery, producing artisanal gin and vodka made from estate-grown chardonnay and harvested rainwater. Opening next month, the Rainfall Distillery Gardens will house over 2,100 plants across 36 species in a closed-loop, single-estate system supported by beehives and sustainable farming.

The estate offers three luxury accommodations: the two-bedroom Settlers’ Cottage, the five-bedroom Vintner’s Residence, and a five-bedroom Homestead, all with refined interiors, full kitchens, outdoor spaces, and locally sourced breakfast hampers.
Its signature Ultimate Winery Experience — A Marriage of Luxury & Nature (from A$3,145 for up to four guests) — includes an overnight stay, private wine tastings, and a four-course open-fire degustation prepared by a Michelin-trained chef. For day visitors, the A$180pp Terroir Tasting Experience combines botanical foraging in the Distillery Gardens with spirit and wine tastings paired with local charcuterie.
UWEA leaders describe Ampersand as a distinctive blend of luxury, sustainability, and deep connection to place. It becomes Western Australia’s fifth Ultimate Winery, joining Vasse Felix, Leeuwin Estate, Voyager Estate, and Mandoon Estate.

Duet by David Toutain Unveils New Signature and Discovery Menus, Culminating in a Three-Restaurant Six-Hands Collaboration

Duet by David Toutain, the signature restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok, has introduced two new dining experiences—the Signature Menu and the Discovery Menu—marking a new stage in the restaurant’s culinary evolution. Since opening, Duet has built its identity around an ingredient-driven philosophy, emphasizing seasonality, sourcing transparency, and refined French culinary techniques. The new menus further strengthen this identity while reflecting the combined vision of Chef David Toutain and Chef Valentin Fouache.
Both menus share the same guiding principle: ingredients take precedence. Each dish highlights exceptional produce, with provenance cards presented to guests to trace ingredients back to their producers. The cuisine is rooted in classical French culinary structure—particularly sauces and technique—while being expressed through a modern approach shaped by the chefs’ creativity and respect for nature.

The Signature Menu, priced at THB 5,800++, represents the most comprehensive expression of Duet’s culinary philosophy. It features some of the restaurant’s most distinctive dishes, including Alaskan King Crab with caviar, accented by vanilla and kaffir lime; Brittany Blue Lobster paired with spruce and homardine sabayon; and Normandy scallops grilled over embers and served with cauliflower and XO sauce finished with Jura yellow wine.

The Discovery Menu, priced at THB 4,500++, offers a shorter tasting experience designed for guests seeking a lighter introduction to the restaurant’s cuisine. The menu evolves with seasonal ingredients and allows for certain choices to personalize the dining experience.
To celebrate the launch, Chef David Toutain will appear in Bangkok from 23–27 March. Special events include three evenings where guests can experience the Signature Menu with the chef present, followed by a six-hands dinner featuring chefs from Toutain’s restaurants in Paris, Hong Kong, and Bangkok, collaborating on an eight-course menu that showcases their shared gastronomic philosophy across three cities.
