Seasalt Bids Goodbye to Yellowfin & Bluefin Tuna Over Unsustainable Fishing

Since its opening, Seasalt at Alila Seminyak has been strongly committed to sourcing seafood that is wild-caught and sustainably harvested from the waters of Indonesia. In line with this commitment, Seasalt partners with Bali Sustainable Seafood, a local social enterprise that provides high-quality seafood that is sustainably fished.
With its focus on sustainable fishing, Seasalt has made the decision to remove yellowfin and bluefin tuna from its menu with immediate effect in an effort to stop the devastating decline of these tuna stocks in the Indian Ocean.
Driven by the world's appetite for tuna, overfishing in the Indian Ocean is damaging the ocean's ability to sustain tuna populations, especially of yellowfin tuna. Recent reports state that the yellowfin tuna forms a significant portion of the annual tuna catches in the Indian Ocean, around 42 percent. Therefore, it has been recommended that tuna fishing be reduced by 20 percent to hopefully allow tuna stocks to recover in the next five years.
Through its action, Seasalt hopes to contribute to restoring a sustainable future for tuna, the world's most favourite fish, particularly its most threatened species. Although yellowfin and bluefin tuna will no longer be on its menu, Seasalt has nevertheless prepared a sustainable replacement using skipjack, a local fish sustainably harvested directly from the waters around Indonesia.

WOOBAR Revitalised

Follow the sound of riveting beats into W Singapore – Sentosa Cove's place to see and be seen, with the unveiling of WOOBAR's freshly-spruced new look. An immaculate space where botanical design meets vibrant modernity, hide away in the pulsing heart of W Hotels' Cocktail Culture, as you soak in the idyllic landscape of the W Lawn and WET® Pool in the Window Lounge, encased in majestic floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the lush greens of our island paradise. Find yourself immersed in the hotel's larger 'glowing jungle' design narrative as you sip your choice of tipple in the Secret Garden's alfresco seating area, the perfect perch to people-watch and revel beneath sunset hues amidst towering palm trees and the iconic glowing beansprouts.
Spearheaded by renowned interior design firm Hassell, the refreshed space brings to life a vision of 'Ban Zu', a settlement historically documented as a safe haven for settlers in Singapore dating back to the 14th Century, named after the Malay term 'pancur' meaning 'spring of water'.  An apt concept for the hotel's boozy waterhole, WOOBAR welcomes guests into a lapping paradise laced with quirky design elements throughout. For instance, try your eye in spotting the six golden hippopotamus statues that support the geometrically enthralling marbled DJ console. Inextricably entwined with its tropical milieu, the main bar stands proudly beneath the whimsical cover of a resplendent ivory canopy, backed by lush edges interweaved with specula panels, doubling as a perfect backdrop for the coveted Instagram snapshot.
Unlike its nightlife-centric antecedent, the revitalised space adopts an intrinsically dual approach in embracing the day to night needs of our guests. With ample power sockets lining its perimeter, the shield of abstract panels impeding distraction, and natural sunlight flooding in throughout the day, the venue strikes the liminal space between sophisticated practicality and stylish comfort in the most impeccable manner.

Priceless Art of War Tapestries Brought Back to Life After Belgian Bath
Two priceless tapestries, which have hung on the walls of Blenheim Palace for more than 300 years, have been restored to their former glory following a year-long conservation project.

After preparation by the Oxfordshire UNESCO World Heritage Site's tapestry conservator, Emma Telford, the 3.8m high wall hangings was transported to Belgium where a specialist cleaning facility washed it to remove any harmful pollutants.

As part of the conservation process the tapestries, illustrating the art of war by Flemish weaver Judocus de Vos, were submerged in a large bath and gently washed to remove the dirt.

Blenheim Palace's Head of Collections, Kate Ballenger, who is overseeing the conservation, said: “At over 300 years old, the tapestries are remarkably well preserved. They do however require conservation treatment to secure their existence for future generations.

After cleaning, they were returned to the UK and taken back to Emma's studio where final conservation work was carried out and Velcro attached to three sides, in place of the old metal press-stud fastenings, allowing for the tapestry to be removed from the wall quickly in the event of an emergency.

As well as the Art of War series, the First Duke of Marlborough commissioned a set of 10 giant hangings to celebrate his stunning victories over Louis XIV in the War of the Spanish Succession between 1706-1710.

The collections of tapestries at Blenheim Palace are considered internationally important having remained in the Marlborough family since the early 18th century. They are also highly prized for their historical representation of arguably the most important period of British military history.
